In the default iOS Contacts app, you have to tap into individual fields to fill out the information but that takes a lot of time. I find the Parser is most helpful for adding a new contact. One of the most prevalent features you’ll see on every screen in Cardhop is the search bar … but this is more than just a search bar, Cardhop calls it a “Parser” because it actively parses the information you type into the box.įor example, you can use the Parser to add information to an already existing contact, or add a birthday to a contact, or even take action on a contact such as “Call Gunther.” There is also a Favorites button, a clock icon for “Recents,” a little present icon for your contact’s Birthdays, and then Settings. In fact, when you first launch Cardhop, you have to give it permission to access your contacts, and it will dutifully pull everything into the app.Īll of your contacts will be available by tapping the circle button in the middle. That’s an excellent question, and I’m going to show you the best features of Cardhop so you can make your own decision, but the brilliant thing is that you DON’T have to use a separate app! Because Cardhop works with the contacts you already have in iCloud or on your phone, and your contacts sync back and forth! Now I’m going to anticipate that the first question that comes to mind, and the same thing that I thought as well … why would I use another app for contacts when it’s already built into the phone? If you have trouble keeping your Contacts organized, Cardhop is most certainly worth a try.Today’s app is Cardhop from Flexibits, the same company that develops the fantastic Fantastical calendar app / service.įantastical is a superb app that let’s you type in a date or appointment in “natural language” and the app parses it all out into a bona fide calendar appointment.Ĭardhop brings that same “natural language” capability to your contacts! The app shows upcoming birthdays, allows you to create business cards and scan them, displays relationships between contacts, and lets you group them directly in Cardhop.Įven without a premium subscription, this app is far ahead of Apple's offering in pretty much every way. You can create meetings directly from your Contacts list, as well as perform various other group actions. If you use Fantastical, grabbing Cardhop makes even more sense. You can create widgets for common actions and add them to the Notification Center or home screen, and Cardhop also offers full support for the Shorcuts app, letting you automate actions or just make them more convenient. Widgets, shortcuts, and Fantastical integration They are more or less identical, and your contacts are synchronized automatically. Once you use the macOS or iOS version of the app, you'll have no problem getting the hang of all the others. For instance, if a contact isn't found, it will start filling out a new entry automatically, allowing you to add them with no extra steps. Just start typing, and the app will figure out what you want. There are many more actions you can perform, and the great thing is you don't even have to remember them. Write an action, such as "call John", and the app will bring up the contact with a button to call them instantly. Write a contact's name and the program will show you all matching entries. "Commands" is probably the wrong term, as you essentially just have to type whatever you want to do. Find contacts and trigger actions with simple commands It does everything Contacts should do, and more. Until Apple decides to improve it, third-party alternatives will have to do.Ĭardhop is an excellent option, and it now also offers integration with Flexibits' popular Fantastical app, as well as a single subscription to unlock the Premium edition of both services. It is very basic, and managing your contacts gets quite difficult if you have more than a few entries. The macOS Contacts app is definitely in need of an upgrade.
